How we build the product
- Forkiee reads the menu in front of you from a photo: printed menus, handwritten boards and screens, in any language, and answers in yours. When it is unsure what a dish contains, it says so.
- Every dish is checked against your allergies (the FDA Big 9, with traces handled separately), intolerances, diets and goals, and Forkiee gives you the sentence to say to the waiter in the local language. It is not medical advice: always confirm allergens with the staff.
- Calories and macros are marked as estimates (“~540 kcal”), never presented as exact.
- Your Taste Passport and your past tables are kept on your phone. Photos you take of a menu, a bill or your plate are sent to Forkiee only so it can read them, and Forkiee’s servers don’t keep them. If you join Friends, the tables you share there, with their photos, are stored so the people you allow can see them. We do not sell your data or share it with restaurants or advertisers.
Editorial standards
The Forkiee blog publishes field notes on gluten-free, allergy, and dietary topics. We hold every post to the same standards:
- Every numeric or factual claim cites a primary source (FDA, NIH, USDA, NEJM, peer-reviewed journals, established advocacy organizations) with a clickable link in the Sources list at the bottom of each post.
- Health and safety claims are hedged when the answer depends on individual diagnosis, kitchen practice, or product formulation. We do not claim 100% certainty on dietary safety.
- Every post carries a medical disclaimer recommending consultation with a qualified healthcare professional for individual decisions.
- Posts use the “Forkiee editorial team” byline. When we make a factual error, we correct the post inline and the change is recorded in our git history.
- We do not name individual Forkiee team members on the public site for privacy reasons. Editorial inquiries go to a shared inbox.
Eat guides
Our eat guides (the pages under /eat and /travel) tell you what to order and what to ask when you eat out with a diet or an allergy. They carry the same “Forkiee editorial team” byline and are written with AI assistance from named sources. Before a guide goes live, every quoted fact is checked on its source page, a separate AI editor checks each claim against the sources, and a person on the editorial team reads and approves it. The details are in our editorial standards.
